App Recap: What’s On My iPhone

Please note: If you are viewing this post on WordPress, I would recommend clicking the post title to enlarge it to full screen.

I’ve had a variety of different phones through the past 2 years – Palm Centro, Palm Pre, Saumsung Fascinate, iPhone 4… – and it’s fairly obvious to anyone who knows me that the iPhone and I were made for each other. I never thought I could love a phone so much or do so much with a phone, but goodness, am I glad I can! I have about 85 apps currently on my iPhone. 85. I’m sure you think I’m completely insane, but I’ve discovered a whole lot of great apps that I get so excited about, I just walk up to random people and tell them all about this great app I just discovered (I do the same with websites – ask any of my co-workers). With all this app surfing I do to find the best apps for what I need or like to do, I’ve come across some apps that I think everyone should at least know about. So, here I am to share some of those with you – apps that I doubt you’ve got that I think you should get – in categories such as Navigation, Social, Games, Entertainment, Photography and Finance (to skip to a category, just click one of those links).

Don’t Build Your Own Yellow Brick Road

We all have our own paces in life. Some people just take things as they come, figuring out the next step as they make it. Others plan things far in advance and know each step they are going to take 5 steps before they even take it. Some people keep their calendar free and clear to do a little of this and that here and there while others just fill up every available space they have with something to do. If you haven’t figured it out already, I’m one of those girls that likes to stay busy. I have a full-time job, run my own wedding photography/planning business, sing with the worship team at my church, work with the management team for a multi-day music festival in the summer, spend time working on a book that I plan to publish in the next year and still find time to have a social life (which includes awesome get-togethers like the now annual Christmas party that is coming up – so excited). I just came out of my first official wedding season in which I had a wedding every weekend from May 31-July 16 and then went straight from a one week vacation in the south to a week running a music festival. I keep busy. And I love it – I love always having some project to work on and accomplish.

We all have these journeys we go on – whether it’s something as simple as heading out to work/school, hunting for a job, starting a business or getting married and buying a house. We all have our quests like that of Dorothy and her misfit friends making their way down the yellow brick road to their endpoint – the Emerald City. I typically have multiple quests going on at the same time so my road is rather multicolored, but what happens when you run out of road? Sometimes you get to a place where there doesn’t seem to be anywhere to go, nothing more to be done and you feel lost and stuck…

Limitless

What are 3 things you love and enjoy most in life? Do any of them have something to do with art, nature, writing, singing, acting…? Think about it for a second – no really, take some time to think about this and write it down. What are 3 things that just make your heart sing, your spirit soar and your whole being just glow with the warmth of happiness?

Looking at your list, compare those things to your job/life right now – are those things involved? For those of you who already have that as a part of your job and every day life – bravo! For those of you who either just realized or already knew that your current situation doesn’t include the things you love most:

Why aren’t you doing them?

The Vision

So this guy comes up to me and says “What’s the vision? What’s the big idea?” I open up my mouth and the words come out like this:

The vision? The vision is Jesus. Obsessively, dangerously, undeniably Jesus.

The vision is an army of young people. You see bones? I see an army. And they are free from materialism. They laugh at 9-5 little prisons. They could eat caviar on Monday and crusts on Tuesday, they wouldn’t even notice. They know the meaning of the matrix, the way the west was won. They are mobile like the wind, they belong to the nations, they need no passport. People write their addresses in pencil and wonder at their strange existence. They are free yet they are slaves of the hurting and dirty and young.

What is the vision? The vision is holiness that hurts the eyes. It makes children laugh and adults angry. It gave up the game of minimum integrity long ago to reach for the stars. It scorns the good and strains for the best. It is dangerously pure. Light flickers from every secret motive, every private conversation. It loves people away from their suicide leaps and their Satan games.

This is an army that would lay down its life for the cause a million times a day. Its soldiers choose to lose that they might one day win the great “well done” of faithful sons and daughters. Such heroes are as radical on Monday morning as Sunday night. They don’t need fame from names. Instead, they grin quietly upwards and hear the crowds chanting again and again “come on!”
